[August 6, 2023] Sunday Sermon Reflection Questions

Series: The Stories & Acts of Jesus
"Jesus Writes on the Ground"
John 8:1-11

  1. When you feel the temptation to judge another person, is it grounded in a desire to walk with them after God's grace in restoration and reconciliation or are we more like the hypocritical scribes and Pharisees that seek to write the other off?  Why do you think we struggle with this?
  2. Jesus writing on the ground creates a space to (1) take away the attention from the hypocrisy and hatred that the mob had and (2) to reflect on what they/we are doing is truly God-honoring.  How can we create spaces for God's Word and the Holy Spirit to speak, correct and mature us first before we do or say anything else?
  3. Jesus' message of mercy to the woman was to turn away from sin and death and to live after the purpose and glory of God (confession & repentance).  How mindful are we in our lives of our own sins and shortcomings and turning to grow in Godliness as an intentional discipline?
