[January 23, 2022] EPC Sunday Sermon Reflection Questions

Series: James - Faith In Action
"Faith Made Genuine"
James 2:14-26

  1. What is the biggest struggle that you have when it comes to living out what you believe and say (i.e. faith, relationships, desires, goals etc)?  Why is it so difficult for us to live out what we say, profess and believe?
  2. James points out the useless and foolish nature of simply "believing" in God (v 19, "You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe — and shudder!") without a trusting surrender and obedience to Him.  What are some ways that you/we can begin to actually live out our faith in our individual and church life?
  3. So often we can feel overwhelmed when we hear or read God's Word because it feels like we have to try harder ourselves in "perfectly" obeying God.  James gives us examples though in Abraham and Rahab, two people who were far from perfect.  His point is not that they accomplished the perfect balance of "faith and works" of their own effort, but that in faith, as they surrendered and obeyed God, they were matured and grown by God's grace.  What hope and encouragement can we take from this in living each to grow in our knowledge, love and obedience to God?  What are some practical steps you can take to remind and strengthen yourselves and one another in God's Word?
