Chapter 4 - Qualifications of Staff

[Article 8]  Pastor

  1. Qualifications: A person who falls under the descriptions of 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, 1 Peter 5:1-4 who has graduated from a formal seminary institution and ordained by a recognized denomination, and also:

    1. Accepts the charter and regulations of this church and its denomination

    2. Is truthful/sincere in his faith and actions

    3. Leads his family through love and devotion in every circumstance

    4. Is respected and praised even by nonbelievers, and

    5. Is a male of 27 years or older

  2. Distinctions

    1. Installed Pastor: A head pastor who has been called and appointed/designated by EPC for a life term.

    2. Temporary Pastor: A pastor who has been called by EPC to serve for 1 year whose term may be extended based on a decision by a Congregational Meeting.

    3. Associate Pastor: A temporary pastor who assists the head pastor whose tenure may be extended yearly based on a decision by the session.

[Article 9]  Elder

  1. Qualification

    1. An Active Member in accordance to 1 Timothy 3: 1-7

    2. Who acknowledges the creed, charter, and by-laws of EPC

    3. A male who is 45 years of age or older

    4. Who has served EPC without reproach for at least 5 years after his baptism

    5. Who has been an Active Member for at least 5 years

    6. Who is firm in his assurance of salvation, and

    7. Who is respected and acknowledged even by nonbelievers.

  2. Adjunct Elders are elders who have been registered in EPC for more than 2 years and appointed by resolution of the Session. Upon 1 year of appointment, he may serve as an active elder upon approval of 2/3 or more of the Active Members attending the Congregational Meeting.

 

[Article 10]  Deacon

  1. Qualification

    1. An Active Member in accordance to 1 Timothy 3:8-13

    2. Who acknowledges the creed and by-laws of EPC

    3. A male who is 35 years of age or older

    4. Who has served EPC without reproach for at least 3 years after his baptism

    5. Who has been an Active Member for at least 3 years

    6. Who is firm in his assurance of salvation, and

    7. Who is respected and acknowledged even by nonbelievers

  2. Adjunct Deacons are deacons who have attended EPC for 2 years as an Active Member, and have been appointed by resolution of the Session.

  3. By resolution of the Session, Deacons for Term can be appointed tasked with the responsibilities of Deacons

 

[Article 11]  Gwonsa

The office of Gwonsa is a permanent office in that once appointed, their term of service is indefinite. However, it is a temporary office in that they are not appointed by ordination.

  1. Qualifications:

    1. A female Active Member who is 45 years of age or older and who has attended EPC for three years after registering as a member

    2. Whose faith is true

    3. Who is firm in her assurance of salvation

    4. Who serves her fellow brothers and sisters in love, and

    5. Who is respected and acknowledged even by nonbelievers.

  2. Adjunct Gwonsas are those who have attended EPC for 2 years after registering as a member, and have been appointed by resolution of the session
